GAIT-WAY CREED

Please pray before reading in order that the Holy Spirit will enlighten your understanding of recovery from a Christian Biblical perspective.  I recommend that after reading sections of this approach to recovery that you take the time to meditate.

Gait-Way Creed

Gait-Way is a fellowship community of Christians and Non-Christians in recovery, who either seeks to or wants to enhance the Spiritual foundation of their walk and relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  The only requirement for membership is a desire to be open in learning the truth of your 12 Step Christian heritage and how to apply God’s Word successfully in your 12 Step road of recovery. We share our experience, strength and hope in Jesus Christ through personal testimony and God's Word to renew and transform our minds into His image and likeness.  There are no dues or fees for membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions and donations. Gait-Way is not allied with any sects, denominations, politics, organizations or institutions.

Our primary purpose is that the truth of His Holy inspired Word, as it is written, provoke those in the “Program”, the “Church” and the “World” to become more Spiritually enlightened to better understand the principles of Kingdom recovery that makes you clean through His spoken Word to pursue the high standard of Holiness that would be a light of influence in a worldly and ungodly culture.

As ambassadors of the gospel who have pledged allegiance to His Kingdom, we are called to carry this message of salvation and total recovery to all who are blinded from the truth of their addictions and their underlying sins. The Biblical 12 Steps are designed with the mind of Christ to support all who follow His path to be clean and sober to recover all through His Word.

 (John 10:10, 16:13, Matthew 6:10, Hebrews 4:25, 12:14, 1 Samuel 30: 8, 18-19)

God's Promises

God’s promises were given to Abraham 430 years before man’s desire for the law of the 10 Commandments and supersede the law.  The covenants of His eternal promises are yea and amen (2 Corinthian 1:20) for all who realize them through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 4:13-25 and Galatians 3: 27-29).

  1. Your name will be made great in the land God gives (Genesis 12:1-2)
  2. My descendants will be blessed with the inheritance of God’s promises in their generation (Genesis 17:7).
  3. Belief in God will be counted as righteousness towards you (Genesis 15:6).
  4. You will be a blessing and those that bless you will be blessed.  Those that curse you will be cursed (Genesis 12:3).
  5. I and my seed will be multiplied exceedingly (Genesis 17:2).
  6. Your name will be changed (Genesis 17:5).
  7. Salvation through the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 8:6 & Ephesians 1:13-14).

Promises for followers of Jesus

  1. A new freedom and new happiness (John 8:34-26, John 12:46 & Luke 15:4-7)
  2. Forgiveness without judgment (Matthew 6:14-15, Luke 6:37-38, Matthew 7:12 & John 7:24)
  3. Love & friendship with God (John 14:21 & 15:10-15)
  4. Prayers answered by faith according to His will (John 15:7, Mark 11:22-24, 1 John 5:14)
  5. Eternal Life (John 3:16, 10:37-38 & 17:3)
  6. Peace (John 14:27 & 16:33 and Philippians 4:6-9)
  7. Future Heavenly Rewards (Luke 6:22 & Mark 10:21)

The 10 Commandments:

God’s law is the schoolmaster for converting one’s soul because whomever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point is guilty of all (Ps. 19:7, Gal. 3:24 & James 2:10). All practicing alcoholics, addicts, etc fall short of His glory in the first commandment (Romans 3:23, Ephesians 5:5, Colossians 3:5 & 2 Corinthians 10:5). When we don't thirst and hunger for righteousness in God and selfishly pursue desires to honor ourselves mentally and physically more than God, we commit the sin of idolatry. In order to obtain blessings from God our heart and spirit must be right before we approach Him (Psalm 24:3-5).

The 10 Commandments are the standard of truth for Step 1 that should always keep us dependant and seeking God's grace and mercy in all that we do on our path of life with and especially without Him.
The 10 Commandments are found in the Bible's Old Testament at Exodus, Chapter 20: 1-17. They were given directly by God to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai after He had delivered them from slavery in Egypt and are the Holy standard that we should be led by the grace of His Spirit to live.

ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'

TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that
is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'

THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'

FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'

FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'

SIX: 'You shall not murder.'

SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'

EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'

NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'

TEN:
'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's
wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'

How He Works
Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed His path in response to His call at the knock on the heart of your door. May you find Him now because there is only one power that has all power in Heaven and in the earth. Our testimonies disclose what life was like without Jesus, what happened to provoke us to pursue Him and what it's like today walking with Him in our rightful authority by His grace and unconditional love.  Unless we are constitutionally capable of being honest with ourselves to deal with inherent sin that seeks to still, kill and destroy God's blessings, purpose and destiny for our lives; we will not recover.  He wishes that none should perish but come to repent to have a more abundant and everlasting life in Him. Here are the steps on the path of recovery that we who love Him are commanded to follow:
(Revelation 3:14-22, John15:21-24 & Luke 9:1)

The Christian Biblical 12 Steps
(Spiritually adapted from the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous)

Though a man’s heart has many plans, the steps of a righteous man are divinely ordered and directed by the government of a sovereign Lord (Psalms 119:133 & Proverbs 16:9).  The 12 Steps conscientiously lived by His Spirit are a practical way of living an abundant life for those who are willing to commit and grow into total dependence upon Jesus for all and who are steady in admitting to themselves the first 3 Steps when faced with any problem:

I can’t, He Can, and I’ll let Him.

  1. I confessed to God as I understand Him that right now my life is unmanageable because I am powerless over the temptation(s) of my addiction and its underlying inherent sin. ( Genesis 2:9, 15-17 and 3,  Matthew 6:13, John 15:5, James 4:6-7 & 1 John 2:16)
  2. I came to believe that God the Father could restore my sanity after my self-will ran riot. (Luke 15:11-24 & Romans 1:18-20)
  3.  Led by God’s Spirit, I made a decision to turn my will and life over to the care of God as I understand Him through Jesus Christ. (Lamentations 3:40, Matthew 16: 13-18, Acts 19:13-16, Romans 8:14, 10:9-10, Isaiah 40:28, Proverbs 3:5-6, 4:7 and John 14:6)
  4. I allowed God to make a searching and fearless moral inventory of my mind and heart. (1 Samuel 16:7, Psalm. 139:23-24 & 1 Corinthians. 11:28)
  5. I admitted to myself, another human being and God my specific sins. (James 5:16 & Matthew 7:1-5)
  6. I am entirely ready for God to renew and transform my mind and heart from ungodly thinking, character and lifestyle. (Romans 12:2, Psalms 51:10, Ephesians 4:17-32, 2 Corinthians 5:17 & 1 John 3:9)
  7. I humbly asked Him to remove my weaknesses and faults. (John 15:2, 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 & 1 John 5:14-15)
  8. I made a list of all people I had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. (Exodus 22:10-15, Numbers 5:6-7, Matthew 6:12 & 18:23-35)
  9. I made direct amends with those wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. (Matthew 6:14-15 and Mark 12:17, Philemon 1:13-16)
  10. I continued to take my personal inventory and when I was wrong promptly admitted it. (Matthew 7:3-5, 2 Corinthians 4:11, James 4:11-12 and 1 John 1:9)
  11. I diligently sought God through prayer, fasting and meditation to improve my conscious contact with Him, praying only for the knowledge of His perfect will for me and the power to carry it out. (Isaih 58, Ephesians 1:18, Colossians 1:9-10 & Hebrews 11:6)
  12. Being Spiritually enlightened and empowered as a result of applying His Word to the 12 Steps, I am commanded to practice His Biblical principals in all of my affairs by serving Him in carrying His message of the Gospel, recovery and discipleship to other blinded and lost souls. (Matthew 20:28; 28:18-20, Luke 9:1 & Colossians 1:24)

God’s Blessings

Blessed means happy in a state of condition or being and the Beatitudes don’t show one how to be saved but describe the characteristics of one’s inner state of mind and heart who has been saved!  The Beatitudes were given to His disciples as part of His message on the Sermon on the Mount that also describes the conduct of true believers and genuine disciples.  Emmet Fox's, 'Sermon on the Mount" was one of three books widely used by Dr. Bob and all newcomers in the early stages of development in the program (pgs. 310-311, Dr. Bob & the Good Oldtimers, Alcoholics by Anonymous World Services Inc, 1980)

  1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3).
  2. Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4).
  3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth (Matthew 5:5).
  4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied (Matthew 5:6).
  5. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy (Matthew 5:7).
  6. Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God (Matthew 5:8).
  7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God (Matthew 5:9).
  8. Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:10).
  9. Blessed are you when men revile you, persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake.  Rejoice and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you (Matthew 5:11-12).
  10. Bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you (Matthew 5:44)
  11. Blessed is that servant whom when he cometh shall find so doing (Matthew 24:46).
  12. It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).
